Hydrogen peroxide bleaching will play an important role in both ECF and TCF bleaching. One of the disadvantages of hydrogen peroxide bleaching is the metal catalyzed decomposition that occurs during pulp bleaching. This decomposition leads to poor utilization of the chemical and low pulp strength properties.
A new process for bleaching with hydrogen peroxide has been developed. The improved peroxide bleaching process is base on the following concept:
1) an acidic bleaching or acid pretreatment of the pulp followed by
2) a peroxide stage with DTMPA (PDTMPA).
The above process results in higher brightness, viscosity and residual from the hydrogen peroxide stage.
