Stabilization of Hydrogen Peroxide to Improve TCF Bleaching of Kraft Pulp, 1994 Pulping Conference Proceedings

Laboratory and mill trials have been successfully completed which demonstrate that an organic stabilizer, QuestalTM PMG, improves the efficiency of hydrogen peroxide bleaching of softwood and hardwood kraft pulp. Bleach performance is modified through reduced consumption of H2O2 via stabilization of the active bleaching species, the perhydroxyl ion [OOH].
In one example, organic stabilizer was applied commercially in a bleached softwood kraft mill practicing an OQ(EOP)P1P2 sequence. Addition at a rate of 0.075% on A.D. pulp to the P1 stage improved final brightness by 3.5% GE and increased residual H2O2 available for recycling back in the bleaching sequence.
