Round Table Session: Recycling Wax Coated Cartons, 1995 Pulping Conference Proceedings

Moderator: Mahendra R. Doshi, Progress in Paper Recycling

Overview: When wax containing cartons are recycled, a slippery sheet is produced. Also, wax affects appearance and strength properties of board. Current and recent developments in handling wax containing cartons include: 1. Eliminate wax containing cartons from OCC. 2. Pulp at temperature below 120°F. 3. Add an emulsifying agent during pulping. 4. Develop recyclable wax. 5. Define and characterize recyclable wax. These and other issues will be addressed by the panel members.
