On the Importance of Impregnation and Chip Dimensions on the Homogeneity of Kraft Pulping, 1995 Pulping Conference Proceedings

Standard procedures in kraft pulping give nonuniform delignification, high rejects production and loss of both pulping and strength yields. Recent research has shown that substantial and practically applicable improvement is achieved with a combination of modified impregnation and accurate chip thickness screening. Recent findings suggest that one can delignify softwood to lower kappa numbers without significant loss of yield and strength characteristics of bleached pulp. This simplifies modification of existing cooking systems. The paper discusses latest results and a comparison to contemporary reaction kinetic and mass transfer models.
