The paper describes the importance of efficient bleach plant washing and highlights the issues involved in the correct selec-tion of washing equipment. The benefits of using presses to replace different types of filters in highly closed bleach plants are discussed. As different types of presses are available it is impor-tant to choose the right press for each application. The results in this paper are based on laboratory and mill data, which are complemented with GEMS computer simulations. In addition, the data are used to indicate where potential calcium scaling problems are to be expected, based on the solubility of different calcium compounds.
