Brown stock screening trends, operating with smaller slots to maximize debris removal and operating with higher feed consistencies to increase capacity, have increased pressure screening power requirements. In some instances, the power requirement increase is pushing the installed motor’s power limitations. A new aerodynamic low power rotor (LP-I Rotor) was designed in response to customers’ demand for reduced pressure screen power requirements. Actual pulp mill case history data is presented to describe the advantages of pressure screening with the low power rotor and a profile slotted cylinder compared to the standard rotor and smooth or other contoured surface cylinders. Documented process improvements include lower power requirements, decreased pulp mill and bleach plant chemical costs, higher capacity, increases in debris removal efficiency, and improvements in pressure screen operation.
