Degox (TM) Process - Laboratory and Mill Experiences with Peroxymonosulfuric Acid, 1995 Pulping Conference Proceedings

Driven by market pressure and environmental regulations, the pulp and paper industry is exploring alternatives to conventional chlorine based bleaching. In times of uncertainty about future regulatory policies, peracids have emerged as a low investment option to supplement higher capital intensive technologies, such as oxygen delignification and ozonation. The DegOX TM Process, which utilizes Peroxymonosulfuric Acid (or Caro’s Acid) for the selective delignification and brightening of pulp, is discussed in this paper. Also described are a high yield manufacturing process for Caro’s Acid and environmental and physical pulp properties from different pulp species bleached on laboratory as well as mill scale.
