With the increased demand and price for wood chips in the Pacific Northwest(PNW), alternative fiber sources are being examined. Since a range of morphological properties have been reported for wheat straw, the characteristics of PNW wheat straw needed to be examined. Fiber dimensions were measured for six commercial cultivars and twenty-two developmental cultivars. The weighted average fiber length of these PNW cultivars ranged from 0.66 to 1.04 mm (Kajaani FS-200). Environmental and genotypic factors affected fiber length distribution.
