This paper considers the agro-economic issues that are of overriding importance for the pulp and paper industry. It gives an overview of the availability and the prices of non-wood fibres in the pulp and paper industry: straw (from cereal, rapeseed and linseed), miscanthus; flax, hemp and kenaf. Also the present use in the pulp and paper industry in the EU(-12) countries will be presented. Furthermore the paper assesses the influence of the EU Common Agricultural Policy on the availability and prices in the future.
