Chemistry can be used as a tool to explain and resolve numerous evaporator/concentrator problems. Analyzing the black liquor within the evaporation cycle for key fouling components can not only solve problems, but allow the proper design of new equipment that overcomes the chemistry problems. This paper gives three examples of liquor chemistry analysis and the application of the information to problem solving.
