Novel Approach to Increasing White Liquor Production and Reducing Non Process Elements in Green Liquor at Stora Norrsundet, Norrsundet, Sweden, 1998 Pulping Conference Proceedings

The paper describes Stora Norrsundet’s approach to upgrading the recausticizing plant to a state-of-the-art facility and at the same time increasing white liquor production and providing flexibility for future capacity increase. The simplified process reduces non process elements in the system and allows utilization of existing equipment in the plant.

A novel approach was taken to achieve the desired results by the installation of a pressure disc filter to clarify the white liquor and wash the lime mud in a single step. This addition to the system allowed the conversion of the existing white liquor and lime mud washing filters to pressure green liquor filters.

The paper discusses the effect of modifications to the recausticizing flow sheet. Operating data for white and green liquor pressure filters are presented, demonstrating a reduction in non process elements.
