Cost-Effective Approach to Liquid / Solid Separation Part #1 - Water Management, 1998 Pulping Conference Proceedings

"Cost-effective approach to liquid / solid separation" will discuss the many options available to today’s Paper Industry to "purify" process and waste water as well as dewater sludge/system-wide rejects. This paper (Part 1) will detail water clarification, water filtration and innovative water treatment equipment for large volume "purification" applications. Dissolved Air Flotation clarification, various Filtration designs and unique mechanical approaches to control biological, metal and scale contamination will be reviewed. Emphasis will be on outlining the most cost-effective water "purification" techniques to close machine water loops, maximize water reuse and minimize costs associated with water use & discharge. The relationship between water "treatment" equipment and chemical use will be outlined. Case histories are highlighted. The most efficient methods to dewater and press solids will be presented in "Part #2-Sludge & Rejects Dewatering" scheduled for presentation at TAPPI ’99.
