New Concept in Kneading - Part I Overview, 1998 Pulping Conference Proceedings
New Taizen is a unique recovered paper stock preparation system which utilizes a mechanical kneading process This system is designed to accommodate low grades of waste paper such as that printed with toner type ink, thermal sensitive paper and other types of paper containing high number of stickies. The process decreases chemical usage, reduces wastewater, and improves quality at a higher yield than traditional systems.
The New Taizen system consists of three separate cylinders in which a high-density waste paper stock is kneaded at a high temperature and low speed without steam. The unique kneading action enhances fiber to fiber contact, increasing the temperature of the paper stock in the cylinder. Because the mixing blades do not directly make contact with the fiber, fibers are not cut and shortened which ultimately leads to better freeness and higher strength.
Results of comparative trials with conventional kneading show significant decreases in dirt counts.
