The strategy in setting up a jute based pulp mill largely depends on the supply and storage of the raw material, selection of the pulping process, development and marketing of the product. These aspects have been critically analysed. Jute stem and core do not seem viable to emerge as pulping raw materials. Retted jute bast fiber shows promising possibilities in making pulp for a wide range of paper products including specialty papers. Neutral sulfite anthraquinone process appears to be encouraging in pulping of the retted bast fiber.
