Development in Bagasse Fiber Preparation for the Manufacture of Fine Papers and Newsprint -- A Review of Facilities in Two Successful Indian Mills, 1998 Pulping Conference Proceedings

Enormous amount of progress has been made in the last decade in improving bagasse storage methods, decreasing losses in storage and obtaining greater uniformity in the quality of bagasse recovered from storage.

This paper gives comparative study of bagasse preparation and handling equipment available in two mills (A&B) in India. This comparison provides a very interesting study of the developments that had taken place in the fiber preparation area over a period of 15 years. It is very clear from the analysis that the modern technology produces fiber of superior quality to the continuous digesters. The fibers have attractive characteristics of high brightness, coupled with low levels of pith, silica and solubles that are so essential for subsequent development of optimum pulp properties. The fiber loss during fiber preparation is also minimal. Probably for some more years to come the equipment and facilities for fiber preparation in Mill B will remain state of art in technology for bagasse preparation for the manufacture of fine papers & newsprint.
