Since the early sixties, Sweden, Finland and Norway have been co-operating in the SCAN-test organization (Scandinavian Pulp, Paper and Board Testing Committee) to develop standards for the pulp and paper area. So far, eleven standards for wood and chip analysis have been published. The SCAN standards for chip size distribution and for sampling are discussed.
