A good MIS (Management Information System) is an invaluable tool to have when working with tight quality targets and attempting to maximize cost control in a DIP mill. American Fiber Resources uses a combination of MIS tools to meet these objectives. A Kvaerner/Chemetics mill-wide operating system (MOPS) system, QES production tracking and management system and Prolab a laboratory data entry system are all tied together to assist the operations and technical staff optimize the performance of the mill. This paper presents examples of how each of these tools are used to meet and maintain the high quality targets required of a market DIP mill, troubleshoot problems and keep control on costs.
