In this study Brightness, TAPPI color methods, Total Color Difference (DE), Absorption coefficient (K) Dye Removal Index (DRI) and Spectral Reflectance of deinked pulps are all used to assess the color removal processes. The results show that it is possible for two pulps to have the same brightness, DRI, K, and DE, and yet still differ in appearance. This work concludes that the way to absolutely characterize the color of a deinked pulp is to measure the percent reflectance of pulp at all visible wavelengths.
