Genetic and environmental factors can impact the chemical composition of wheat straw. Differences were observed in cellulose, lignin, hemicellulose, silica, and potassium contents and will influence pulping yields and the amount of non-process elements entering the pulp mill. With these variations in the available raw material supply, straw may be selectively harvested for a specific process or product.
