Georgia Pacific kicked off the Fiber Optimization Process in April 1994 with the objective of identifying opportunities for savings in the process of converting fiber for the manufacture of paper. The primary focus of this process was improved raw material utilization. As a result, a chip quality team was formed in the first quarter of 1996. The objectives were to baseline chip quality, make improvements and provide continual monitoring of suppliers.
