Chemical Treatment in Mechanical Pulping Part 5: Sulfite Pretreatment, 2001 Pulping Conference Proceedings

E. C. Xu--Different methods of applying sulfite for chip pretreatment, in combination with pressurized refining, were investigated: atmospheric impregnation followed by rotary valve or plug screw feeder that feeds into pressurized cooking vessel, direct application of the chemicals into the pressurized cooking, and different chemical liquor temperature. The results demonstrated that those different methods of chemical application all had some effects on process efficiency and/or pulp property development.
