Soda-Amine Pulping of Cotton Stalk, 2001 Pulping Conference Proceedings

M. S. Jahan--The effect of amine such as ethylenediamine (EDA) and monoethanolamine (MEA) in soda pulping of cotton stalk is examined. Addition of EDA or MEA in soda liquor resulted in significant increases in the delignification rate and pulp yield. The strength properties increase with increasing EDA or MEA in soda liquor. Soda-amine pulping followed by elemental chlorine free bleaching resulted in higher properties than the soda pulping. Final brightness of soda-EDA pulp is 2.2 unit higher than the soda pulp. The yield loss in soda-amine pulping during bleaching is also lower than the soda pulping.
