On-Line Analysis of Alkali, Sulfide, and Dissolved Lignin During Kraft Pulping by Attenuated Total Reflection UV Spectroscopy, 2001 Pulping Conference Proceedings

Li--This study experimentally demonstrated Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) UV Spectroscopy for rapid and simultaneous determination of EA, sulfide, and dissolved in kraft pulping liquors. A multivariate partial least-square fitting procedure (a commercial software) was employed to obtain the species concentrations from the experimental absorption spectra of the pulping liquor. Good agreements between ATR-UV measurements and reference methods (titration for alkali and sulfide and conventional UV absorption for dissolved lignin) were obtained. The ATR-UV method can be implemented on-line for process control in mill environments.
