APMP (Alkaline Peroxide Mechanical Pulping) Pulps from Non-Wood FIbers Part 3: Bagasse, 2001 Pulping Conference Proceedings
E. C. Xu, N. N. Rao--As third part of our series on P-RC APMP pulps from non-wood fibers, alkaline peroxide pretreatment refiner mechanical pulping (P-RC APMP process) was compared with alkaline sulfite pretreatment using bagasse as raw material. And bagasse APMP pulp properties were analyzed and compared with APMP pulps from North American aspen and kenaf. The results showed that:
1) the alkaline peroxide pretreatment consumed less energy and have a higher light scattering and brightness ceiling than CMP/BCMP pulps; and
2) bagasse APMP pulps have similar intrinsic pulp strength and light scattering properties as aspen at the medium level of chemical charge, but inferior to kenaf.
3) P-RC APMP process showed a better bleachability than CMP combined with post bleaching.
