My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
J.C. Fernandes, L. Floccia--An innovative bleaching process for secondary fibers was investigated in laboratory and different bleaching sequences were carried out using ozone. These bleaching sequences were also investigated in an industrial scale pilot in a mill. The factors studied were the pH, the temperature and the concentration of the different bleaching agents. Bleaching stages were performed using ozone alone or in combination with other oxidative agents. The effect of ozone on different raw materials including wood containing waste papers is discussed. The results showed significant effects on the deinking ability of the pulp and on the reduction of residual inks and dyes. The use of low grade raw materials to produce white writing and printing grades was also investigated.
