Views on Recyclability of Pressure Sensitive Labels in Europe, 2000 Recycling Symposium Proceedings

Antti Leppänen--This paper discusses the background information about the views in recyclability of pressure sensitive labels in Europe. It is also a review to the PSA-label business in general and highlights how recyclability and waste issues concern this part of packaging industry. As a source of stickies, pressure sensitive adhesives and labels differ significantly from many other sources of these and similar contaminants. This paper describes the role of pressure sensitive labelstock in paper recycling and summarises the main developments in the field of labelstock manufacturing and paper recycling from the last ten years in Europe. It will also summarise how to test recyclability and present the main achievements and obstacles concerning the recyclability testing .
