My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
Michaeal Ellis, Dr. M.J. Hou
Waste paper printed with both water-based (W-B) and oil-based (O-B) inks were deinked using flotation and washing processes. The efficiency of different deinking chemistry in dealing with the contamination of water-based inks was examined using the in-house pilot facility. The results indicated that typical wastepaper furnish with low level contamination of W-B ink could satisfactorily be handled by displectors. For the high level of contamination, we found that a proprietary deinking technology is extremely successful in the removal of W-B inks by flotation or combination process.
