Recycle Paper Research in the Department of Chemical Engineering, University of Maine, Orono, Maine, 1994 Recycling Symposium Proceedings

Paivi Forsberg, Donna A. Johnson, Joseph M. Genco, Edward V. Thompson

A wide variety of research and development projects are being carried out at the University of Maine related to recycle fiber and paper technology.

These projects involve both laboratory and pilot plant scale equipment, and process evaluation studies of commercial recycle operations. Both fundamental and applied studies are being conducted. Two of the largest ongoing programs include flotation theory and practice, and nonchlorine bleaching of mixed office waste. The purpose of this paper is to describe these two types of activities, and to present recent results to give an indication of current status and future goals.
