Recovering Usable Fiber From Pulp Mill / Paper Mill Sludge, 1994 Recycling Symposium Proceedings
Charles S. Moss, Drew Kovacs
Paper mills are constantly trying to reduce outflow and solid wastes from their mill systems. Extensive and expensive waste handling systems have evolved to handle waste streams and sludge. A new and simple system has been tested that can reduce landfill solids by as much as 60%) volume by 90%) and recover up to 85% of the good fiber presently lost. This system can easily be retrofitted into existing sludge systems. This system uses conventional and new technology equipment that may include some or all of the following: a pressure screen, advanced cleaners, a fractionation washer, a mechanical clarifier, and a sludge press.
