Effect of Deinking Agents on the Clarification of Process Water From Recycling of Newsprint, 1994 Recycling Symposium Proceedings

The process water used in the recycling plant of waste furnishes is usually recycled in order to conserve water. In most cases, the recycle water may contain a variety of suspended solids, such as inks, fillers, and fibers. Clarification of the water to remove these solids may become necessary before it can be reused in the process. The clarification process can be affected by the deinking agent (DIA) used in the deinking step. Deinking agents are basically surface active agents (SAA), such as soaps, surfactants, dispersants, detergents, collectors, etc. Different deinking agents have varying degrees of surface activity and solubility in deinking process water. A study was carried out to examine the effect of different DIA on process water clarification (PWC).
