In 1991, Boise Cascade determined they needed to introduce recycled pulp into newsprint produced at the Stailacoom mill for the California market. Boise worked with Beloit to design, supply and install the deinking plant.
The recycle plant is designed to produce 225 tons/day of furnish for the No. 2 and No. 3 paper machines located at Steilacoom. Before the deinking line started up in July of 1993, the mill used wood waste from sawmills-to produce TMP and some Kraft.
The mill now blends recycled pulp with TMP and Kraft to produce newsprint containing 40% recycled deinked pulp. Material for the recycle plant is 70% old newspapers (ONP) and 30% old magazines (OMG).
