An Operation Perspective on the Design and Construction of a Deink Market Pulp Mill
lst Urban Fiber has recently started up a 500 T/D deink pulp (DIP) mill that uses Mixed Office waste (MOW) as a feed furnish. It produces high grade pulp that is comparable to hardwood kraft in both optical and physical properties. The project was developed by PenCor, a successful developer previously unfamiliar with pulp and paper mills and built by a single project contractor, SBCCS, who had considerable experience in the industry. The unique plant design, and operations philosophy, is a result of operator involvement in the design and construction decisions from the project’s conception. 1st Urban Fiber successfully produced quality pulp within a very short period of time, largely because of the developer’s foresight, and the process equipment provider and operator’s experience.
