My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
The Boise Cascade office waste paper recycle plant located at Jackson, Alabama is staffed utilizing a unionized self directed work team approach. With this work system there are no shift supervisors or foreman. The decision making is held to those persons directly involved and with reference to the guidelines set by the plant superintendent. This paper looks at the training involved in preparing the Recycle System Specialists (operators) for the job of starting up and operating the 210 tpd recycle plant. The issues, concerns and opportunities that have been found as a result of the start-up and optimization are also addressed.
