Systematic Approach to Choosing Flotation Chemistry Insures Success in ONP/OMG Deinking System Start-Up

Ponderay Newsprint Company (PNC) successfully started up a 120 tpd ONP/OMG deinking line in the spring of 1995. A systematic approach of evaluating flotation chemistry was used which included: industry bench-marking, identifying a number of surfactant options, and participating in pilot plant evaluations. This process allowed PNC to start-up successfully and reach full production quickly with predictable results. This paper will discuss this approach and compare the results of pilot plant flotation trials with initial start-up flotation data.
