Effectiveness of Ionically Charged Chemicals as Flotation Aids in Stickies Removal During Mixed Office Wastepaper Recycling
The presence of stickies in recycle pulp can cause severe problems in papermaking. The source of stickies in the wastepaper are many. The typical polymeric stickies are hot melt and pressure sensitive adhesives, latex polymers for paper coatings and binders, and thermoplastic and thermoset ink resins. A laboratory study was carried out to examine the removal of these different polymeric stickies by using ionically charged chemicals in the deinking/recycling process. A comparison of different polymers was made. This paper only examines the hot melt and pressure sensitive adhesives.
