Recycled Fiber Fractionation-A Study of Three Methods
As we recycle more and more fiber into our mainstream products, the strength and desirable properties of the end product decreases. To offset these decreases, more manufacturers are looking to fiber fractionation as a tool to improve declining properties. Studies were done on OCC and market pulps comparing the standard pressure screen fractionation process with the newer processes using disc and drum filters. The study inspects positive and negative aspects of each process and shows what final product qualities can be achieved from each method of fractionation. This study also shows what kind and how much recycled fiber material must be removed to bring fiber quality back to desirable parameters and what to expect from each process.
