A New Type of Washer, 1996 Recycling Symposium

There are many types of existing washers on the market: drum, belt, nip, disk. All work to varying degrees for specific applications of washing. Today’s recycled fiber pulps vary greatly from day to day and even batch to batch. A new washer has been developed which takes the positive aspects from each of its predecessors and incorporates them into a new concept of washing. The positive aspects of each washer are examined. The incorporation of these features to the new washer is shown. Pilot Plant data is presented that shows how this washer functions and what efficiency of washing can be expected on ash, fines, ink specks, stickies and other recycled fiber contaminants. Different aspects of operation are shown which demonstrate the washer’s ability to handle today’s recycled fiber pulp variations.
