My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
Wet strength resins are used in paperboard to allow it to be used in damp and wet service conditions. These resins make the board very difficult to repulp and are undesirable from an environmental aspect. A new resin system has been developed that, while providing adequate wet strength to board, still produces a product that can be mixed into the old corrugated container waste stream without decreasing the through-put of fiber recovered in a mill recycling this type of waste.
