My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
The influence of alkali concentration in butoxy-ethanol flotation de-inking solution on pulp properties was investigated using non-impact printed papers. Ink detachment and flotation functioned well with relatively high pH values, preferably greater than 10 for xerographic ink, and greater than 11 for laser ink. The floatability of iron-based laser ink was relatively poor. However, these particles could be successfully removed by magnetic separation.
