Enzymatic Deinking of Non-Impact Printed White Office Paper with Amylase
A novel hydrolytic enzyme, bacterial alpa-amylase (BAN 12OL, Novo Nordisk) was used to enhance flotation deinking of copy papers. The effects of the enzyme concentration reaction time, and addition of a flotation aid (DI-600, High Point Chemicals) on the deinking performance were studied. Pulp properties and optical and strength propelties of hand sheets were analyzed.
The pulp was treated with an enzyme concentration of 0.01 to 1.0 NU/g of OD pulp for 30 to 90 min. Subsequently, flotation deinking was performed with 0 to 0.3% flotation aid (OD pulp basis). An experimental design was used to estimate the conditions for optimum toner particle removal.
