Development of Deinking Agents for Flotation Systems: Part 4, 1997 Recycling Symposium Proceedings
The performance of new deinking agents using Japanese newspaper and printing/information paper (OA paper) was discussed in our previous presentation. We reported the use of a specially designed high-alcohol EOPO block copolymer DIA (HAB) that made it possible to produce pulp with a higher brightness and lower residual ink than that achievable with currently available DIA’s.
This new deinking agent was evaluated in North American ONP deinking mills with viable results in several mills. However, in one mill, as the trial progressed, using a single addition of the deinking agent at the pulper, brightness began to decline. The cause of the brightness loss was ink contaminated white water used for stock dilution. By splitting the addition of the deinking agent between the pulper and flotator, a high quality recycled pulp was produced. The balance between the ink removal and ink collection was effectively improved.
In this paper, the results of the comparative study, i.e., the HAB and fatty acid EOPO copolymer (control) are reported.
