Recently there has been an increased focus on water clarification systems in deinking operations. This is due to heightened environmental awareness, system closures and limitations on amount and quality of water discharges. In order to maximize the effectiveness of clarification technology, the pulper chemistry must be controlled to avoid problems in clarification. This paper addresses the deleterious effects of sodium silicates on MOW furnish and its consequence on process water clarification chemistry.
