Utilization of an OCC Plant's Control System, 1998 Recycling Symposium Proceedings
Process control can improve operations in areas such as safety, productivity and quality. Many OCC plants have Distributive Control Systems (DCS) for process and information control. The capabilities of these systems have increased the ability to automate many actions previously left to the operators’ discretion. With the advent of team based operations, the need to provide the best information and controls are even more important for maintaining uniform quality and production.
This paper discusses strategies on how to control mixed waste addition, pulper consistency and ragger timer settings using simple control algorithms that have improved the operation of an OCC plant Determining the lag time in the high density storage has also proven to be a benefit for paper machine operations.
