Not all stickies adhere in the same locations. Some prefer the paper machine and press wires, some prefer high shear locations and some do not become adhesive until the paper reel has cooled and the paper is in the press room or converting operation. The 80/20 rule has often been invoked for stickies - 20% of the stickies cause 80% of the problems. If the source of these most troublesome stickies can be identified, then it may be possible for the recycle plant to attempt to be more selective in their waste paper purchasing to reduce the amount of these adhesives. This paper looks at a stickies deposition tester to provide information on sticky deposition characteristics under controlled conditions. The benefits and potential uses of the measurement procedure will be highlighted.
