Summary of Stickies Test Methods, 1998 Recycling Symposium Proceedings

Both paper producers and adhesive manufacturers are searching for practical and reproducible test methods to assess stickies contamination in deinked fiber. New methods have recently been introduced through the TAPPI, ASTM, and FINAT organizations and United States Postal Service (USPS). These tests differ in scope and procedure based on whether they are used as a quality control method for deinked fiber or as a research and development tool for adhesive manufacturers. This paper summarizes the practical operations of each method and provides a synopsis to correlate the findings between approaches.
