Dispersion of Wax Coatings at Neutral pH and Typical Process Temperatures, 1999 Recycling Symposium Proceedings

Recent work on controlling the contamination problem caused by wax coatings has focused on manipulating the particle size. The use of dispersants to reduce the particle size is a promising approach. The wax is removed from the pulp in a washing step and then removed from the water in a clarification step. The chemical treatment discussed has been designed for application to the wet end of the paper machine without the need to adjust the pH of the water. This dispersant also allows the wax to be dispersed at process temperatures due to the addition of a melting point reduction agent.
