Production of High Quality Tissue from Low Grade Wastepaper, 1999 Recycling Symposium Proceedings

In 1995, Cartiera Lucchese started up a new 200 T/D deinking plant and tissue machine at it’s mill in Diecimo, Italy. The machine produces a high quality tissue from 100% recycled fiber. Recycled fiber was a natural choice for the project since Cartiera Lucchese was experienced in using recycled paper at their other locations.

For the design of the new deinking plant, environmental and physical constraints lead to the conclusion that a dedicated bleaching stage could not be used. At the same time, economic constraints required the use of post consumer wastepaper such as Magazines,

Office Waste, Printed SBS Board, label stock, etc. Therefore, a highly efficient deinking process was necessary to meet the final tissue requirements of 80 to 84 ISO brightness, low visible dirt content, and less than 2% ash content. The design and success of the deinking plant will be discussed in detail.
