Impact of 'C' Former Installation on Paper Properties and Paper Machine Operation, 1990 TAPPI Conference Proceedings

Two Black Clawson Top Flyte ā€œCā€ Formers were installed on PM 5 and PM 8 of Provincial Papers in Thunder Bay, Ontario. PM 5 started up in June 1988 and PM 8 in April 1989. Significant improvements in formation and surface properties as well as reduced two-sidedness have been achieved on a wide range of coated papers. The formers have been essential parts in a production expansion plan and have also made possible the production of heavier, basis weight grades previously beyond the capability of the existing fourdriniers.

This paper reviews the paper properties and the paper machine operating conditions and how they were affected by the addition of the Top Wire Unit.
