Advances in Hot Pressing Technology, 1990 TAPPI Conference Proceedings

The paper industry has been searching for more efficient methods to remove water from the sheet prior to drying. It is an established fact that mechanical dewatering is more economical than evaporation. Therefore, the emphasis is being placed on what occurs in the press nip. The TEM-SEC direct action hot press is a result of extensive trials relating heat and pressure to water removal efficiencies. The outcome has been a product from the press section that has higher solids levels than that from conventional presses and possesses improved sheet qualities. This press will also yield increased productivity while reducing energy costs.
