Helicoater 1500, 1990 TAPPI Conference Proceedings

In the early 1960’s English China Clays invented the Helicoater, a machine which provided a means of evaluating paper coating formulations on laboratory scale equipment. The machine has proven during the 25 years of its life to be a realistic means of simulating pilot and full scale paper coaters at a very low cost. During this time it has been upgraded but advances in paper coating performance, particularly in speed, required a radical review of the Helicoater’s future. This paper reports the progress made which has led to the introduction of the totally new Helicoater 1500.
